Position Summary
The Wetaskiwin Public Library seeks an energetic Librarian who is committed to excellence in public service, intellectual freedom, and community outreach. Under the direction of the library manager, the Community Services Librarian will create, and develop opportunities for engaging with community members to expand the library’s reach in the community. The goal is to understand and respond to the specific needs and interests of community members of all backgrounds. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills as well as a desire to improve library service in our community. Programming experience is a must. The librarian will also learn and become proficient in all library operations. This leadership position reports to the Manager of Administrative Services.
Duties
Plans, organizes, and conducts programming for adults, seniors, and Indigenous populations in the community. Establishes and maintains community partnerships. Grant writing will be considered an asset. Strong initiative is an asset. Exemplary customer service skills with proficiency using integrated library systems (ILS) required. This individual is also expected to regularly provide reference, readers’ advisory, referral, and customer account and circulation services to patrons, in person at public-facing service points and by telephone or virtually; and adhere to established quality standards.
Education and Qualifications
- MLIS from an accredited Library and Information Studies program.
- 3 years’ experience working in a library setting.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Google Docs, ILS, and other computer software.
- Experience in a supervisory position.
- Marketing, advertisement creation, and social media skills are an asset.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Outstanding instructional skills.
- Completes other related duties as assigned.
- Valid Alberta driver’s license required.
- Criminal record and vulnerable sector check required.
