The Cochrane Public Library is looking for a Program and Engagement Manager to help lead its dynamic team. Cochrane, Alberta is a burgeoning and picturesque town nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with a population of over 32,000. This is a unique opportunity to work with an amazing community while contributing to the growth and promotion of the Cochrane Public Library.

Job Description: The Program and Engagement Manager role is responsible for planning, organizing, delivering, and evaluating programs for all ages. This position directly supervises the Program Team and provides leadership to all staff.

The Program and Engagement Manager will have varying responsibilities related to the development and oversight of library services, programs, and collections and performing other duties as required to support Library operations, as well as Cochrane Public Library’s Strategic Plan and Plan of Service.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and supervise the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of Library programs
  • Provide leadership, supervision, coaching, and skills development training for the Program Team
  • Act as a strong and positive advocate for the Library and its services, and foster relationships within the community
  • Demonstrate vision, innovation, creativity, and being a champion for change when such is in the best interests of meeting the Library’s mission and Plan of Service
  • Research and advise on latest developments and best practice in the delivery of Library services, policy issues and customer concerns
  • Assist with the professional management of all services the Library provides

Education and Experience Required:

  • MLIS preferred; combination of experience and post-secondary degree may be considered
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working in a public library
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in program delivery
  • Supervisory experience

Abilities & Skills Required for Success:

  • Significant experience in program planning and delivery
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and manage organizational change and growth
  • Well-developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration and partnerships with staff, patrons and community stakeholders
  • Adaptability in a dynamic and changing environment with a strong desire to learn
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing to ensure all related deadlines are met
  • Understanding of basic strategic and financial planning/budgeting as it relates to libraries
  • Experienced in performing research and report/grant writing
  • Technological proficiency including in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, website management software, promotional software (i.e. Canva and LibraryAware), and online resources
  • Proven ability to provide leadership to library staff in a supervisory role and address challenging or unexpected situations in a professional and appropriate manner

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s licence and vehicle; ability to satisfy insurance requirements
  • Driver’s Abstract
  • Fluency in both verbal and written English communication
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check from the Police Service

Compensation & Hours:

  • This is a full-time position with 40 hours/week and will include day, evening and weekend shifts in order to accommodate meetings, Library events and programs, and community events   
  • Base salary is $61,749.00
