Up to 29 hours per week

1 year part time term position, with possibility of becoming permanent PT after term

Schedule varies with day, evening and weekend shifts
Starting wage: $21.95 per hour no benefits or pension
Anticipated start date: as soon as possible

The Mary C. Moore Public Library in Lacombe, Alberta is currently seeking a creative, forward-thinking Library Programmer to join our team. This position is under the supervision of the Head Librarian.

The Library Programmer develops, plans, runs and evaluates all lifelong learning adult and intergenerational programs. Our current programming includes monthly book clubs (2 adult fiction, 1 family), adult craft programs, trivia nights, spice of the month, and an independent film series. The programmer will be responsible for
developing new or additional program offerings based on the needs of the library community and the goals of the
library’s plan of service.

This position is also responsible for creating the monthly newsletter, updating the library website (via Squarespace), creating promotional materials and social media content, creating book displays, networking with local groups and organizations, and much more.

Skills, Responsibilities, Experience:

  • manage an annual budget
  • keep accurate records and statistics including attendance and purchases
  • plan and order all program supplies
  • proficiency in MS suite, Canva, social media platforms, and Google suite
  • creative, flexible, organized, community-minded
  • self-motivated and able to work independently as well as part of a team
  • experience managing a budget
  • sense of humour!
  • knowledge of popular literature
  • strong public service skills

Preference will be given to applicants with an undergraduate degree and experience working in a public library setting. Library technicians and those with community program or event planning experience are encouraged to apply.
