About the Library
Housed in the Riddell Library and Learning Centre, the University Library is an integral part of the MRU experience. The services, facilities, programming and expertise available in the Library support innovative teaching, learning, and scholarship across campus. The Library includes the Archives and Special Collections, and specialized and technology-enriched teaching and learning spaces, including information literacy classrooms, a Maker Studio, audio production rooms, and a range of visualization, simulation, and immersive spaces.

About the Role
The Public Services Assistant, Outreach Support provides support for the Library’s outreach, event, and programming initiatives to ensure a positive and seamless experience for those using the Library’s public event spaces. The position requires a user-centered public service focus; a high degree of responsibility, creativity, problem-solving, and self-motivation; experience with event support as well as excellent training, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
This is a replacement term position ending June 30, 2026, with the possibility of extension. If the previous incumbent in the position returns prior to the end of the term, Mount Royal University may choose to adjust the length of the term.
This position works 35 hours a week on-campus.
This position works Tuesday-Saturday and regular work hours are 10am-6pm Tuesday-Thursday, 10am-5pm Friday and 9-5pm on Saturdays, though they may fluctuate subject to demands of event and programming bookings.
Responsibilities
- Provide Public Services to Library Users:
- Provide one-on-one instruction and assistance to Library users, in both virtual and physical environments, to assist them in meeting their information needs.
- Maintain expertise in a range of information resources, databases, subject areas, and searching and evaluation skills.
- Assist users with current and emerging Library learning technologies and equipment (including computers, media equipment, printers, audio production equipment, and software; and the technologies available in the Library’s Maker Studio, and Visualization and immersive spaces).
- Outreach and Event Support:
- Provide operational, logistical, and booking support for events and other outreach initiatives.
- Provide on-site meeting and event support and assistance.
- Provide support for programming of displays, events, and exhibits including signage and promotion.
- Communicate and liaise with colleagues, partners, and guests internal and external to the Library
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required.
- A Library and Information Technology diploma is an asset.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
- Experience in event planning and support is required.
- Experience with communications, marketing, and promotions related to outreach and events is a strong asset.
- Experience working in academic libraries would be an asset.
- Demonstrated commitment to excellence in public services and an ability to function in a team environment is crucial.
Salary: $ 54,891.20 – $ 69,487.60 per annum
