Airdrie Public Library (APL) is the start of your journey of discovery!

The Airdrie Public Library (APL) is seeking an enthusiastic and creative CreateSpace Assistant to support digital literacy and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) programming for children and youth while helping maximize the potential of the Rotary CreateSpace. This role contributes to creating an engaging,
accessible, and inspiring environment where community members can explore creativity, technology, and hands-on learning.

Reporting to the Community Catalyst, the CreateSpace Assistant supports program delivery and participant engagement while assisting with the organization and day-to-day operations of the CreateSpace. This includes maintaining maker equipment and materials, supporting efficient workflows, and helping ensure the space remains welcoming and easy to use. The role also assists with community outreach events and collaborates with library staff to promote innovative learning opportunities aligned with Airdrie Public Library’s vision to start a journey of discovery.

The Airdrie Public Library is a welcoming, community-focused organization committed to inspiration, curiosity, courage, access, and joy! In 2025, APL moved into Inspire, Airdrie’s new multi-use civic facility, resulting in significantly increased demand for programs and
services. APL serves one of Canada’s youngest and fastest-growing communities and offers dynamic programming for children, teens, and families year-round.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver digital literacy and STEAM-based programs for children and youth
  • Support the setup, maintenance, and organization of CreateSpace equipment, tools, and work areas while assisting with basic troubleshooting and improving workflows for staff and patrons
  • Assist in developing simple reference materials, signage, and quick-start guides to support independent use of CreateSpace tools
  • Participate in library outreach initiatives, including community festivals, events, and special programming

What You Will Bring

  • Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements, including:
    • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
    • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection
  • Act for the duration of the employment and Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience)
  • Interest in digital literacy, makerspaces, and STEAM learning Experience working with children or youth in educational, recreational, or community settings is considered an asset
  • Basic familiarity with creative or maker technologies (e.g., 3D printing, coding, robotics, crafting tools, or digital media) is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with children, teens, and library staff
  • Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent internal and external customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effectively interacting with library staff and patrons

Other Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Successful candidates will be required to submit a criminal record with vulnerable sector checks as a condition of employment
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including the ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, public-facing environment

Work Term Details

  • Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), occasional evenings and weekends required
  • Term: Approximately 16 weeks (May 4–August 21, 2026)
  • Wage: $22.37/hour
  • Professional Development: First Aid certification provided. The CreateSpace Assistant is encouraged to identify personal professional development goals (such as public speaking, leadership, or program design) and receive tailored
    opportunities to strengthen these skills throughout the summer
