Position Details
The Airdrie Public Library (APL) is seeking two enthusiastic and creative Summer Reading Club (SRC) Programmers to plan, promote, deliver, and evaluate the Library’s annual Summer Reading Club for children aged 5–12.
Reporting to the Children and Teen Program Coordinator, SRC Programmers play a key role in delivering a free, inclusive, literacy-focused summer learning program designed to keep children engaged with reading, learning, and the library during the summer months. This position offers meaningful, hands-on professional experience in children’s programming, community outreach, volunteer supervision, and project management within a busy, supportive public library environment.

services. APL serves one of Canada’s youngest and fastest-growing communities and offers dynamic programming for children, teens, and families year-round.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning, promoting, delivering, and evaluating the Summer Reading Club for children aged 5-12 years
- Scheduling and delivering school visits to all K-6 classes in Airdrie
- Coordinating the organization and delivery of SRC special events
- Supervising and scheduling teen volunteers
- Working collaboratively with the SRC team and larger programming team
What You Will Bring
- Strong passion for literacy, learning, and community engagement
- Completion of at least one year of post-secondary education, preferably in Education, Early Childhood Development, Library and Information Studies, or a related discipline, and returning to school in the Fall of 2026
- Eligible for employment under the Young Canada Works program, including:
- be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (note: non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or
awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible); and
o be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment
- be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (note: non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office
and shared file systems - Experience working with children in educational, recreational, or community settings is considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engaging children, families, educators, and library staff
Other Requirements
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Successful candidates will be required to submit a criminal record with vulnerable sector checks as a condition of employment
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including the ability to occasionally lift and carry equipment weighing up to 35 pounds
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic, public-facing environment
Work Term Details
- Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), occasional evenings and weekends required
- Term: Approximately 16 weeks (May 4–August 21, 2026)
- Wage: $22.37/hour
- Professional Development: First Aid certification provided. SRC Programmers are encouraged to identify personal professional development goals (such as public speaking, leadership, or program design) and receive tailored opportunities to strengthen these skills throughout the summer
