Position Details
Summary:
This is a projected 18 month temporary position, covering for a parental leave. The target start date is the beginning of August.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Assistant Director has primary responsibility for the development and coordination of region-wide programs, services, and promotions. They support rural staff in Palliser Regional Library’s 19 rural branches and are responsible for rural staff training, professional development, and evaluation.
The Assistant Director works closely with the Executive Director and serves as a member of the Palliser Management Team. This position requires some regular travel around the region and may involve working occasional evenings and weekends.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administrative Support
- Assists the Director in developing and implementing policies, long-range strategicplanning, and operational procedures
- Prepares and manages budgets within areas of responsibility
- Area Resource Centre and Local Branch programming, materials, and training budgets
- Supports grant applications and reporting requirements
- Serves on the Palliser management team and contributes to region-wide initiatives
- Training Rural Branch Staff
- Trains new staff and ensures continuous development for existing staff in the areas of program development & evaluation, community engagement, and digital technologies (website, online databases, Libby, Hoopla, and SILS apps, Canva, etc.)
- Organizes the semi-annual Branch Staff Workshop
- Programming & Outreach
- Oversees planning, implementation, and evaluation of region-wide programming for all ages
- Leads community outreach initiatives and cultivates partnerships with organizations, agencies, and local groups
- Promotes library services through community presence and outreach activities
- Creates and distributes region-wide promotional and informational materials such as Hot New Releases, Literacy Activity Calendars, and informational brochures
- Promotes library services through Palliser’s social media pages, manages the Palliser website, and selects merch and promotional items
- Collection Development & Management
- Selects new books from the Holds Alert List
- Manages ARPs for ULS and Overdrive and reviews carts
- Evaluates donations sent by branches to HQ for processing
- Reviews damaged items for repurchase
- Sends weeding lists to the branches
- Reviews HQ floating items for weeding or redistribution
- Reviews Stranded Holds list for branches
- Selects new lendable kits, including book club kits and programming kits
- Manages headquarters kit lending policies and procedures
- Staff Leadership
- Supervises Rural Branch Librarians, including administration of the Collective
- Agreement in area of responsibility
- Provides coaching, mentorship, performance evaluation, and professional development
- Fosters a positive, team-oriented, customer-focused workplace culture
- Fosters accuracy, accountability, and service excellence within the team
Qualifications
- A degree in Library and Information Science, or another related field.
- Valid Saskatchewan Class 5 license and clean driving record.
- Submission of Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to adjust priorities, take initiative, set goals, manage time wisely, and make quick effective decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team member in a dynamic environment and on a variety of simultaneous projects.
- Knowledge of social media platforms and web-based communication, information and collaboration tools with at least one to two years of experience in public relations, communications, or digital services.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor staff, lead teams, and encourage creativity across a multi-branch system.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Pay Scale:
Salary range for this position is $67,000 – $78,000 per year.

Hours of Work:
- Full-Time (36.5 hours/week) Monday to Friday; some evening & weekend work is occasionally required
